The Suffering Church as Isis Advances

On this beautiful September day in Ireland, I thank God for the freedom that I have to worship and serve Him. Yes, we may have personal problems in our own lives – health and other concerns. We may be disturbed by sleepless nights… but when I think of others in that part of the world which is over-run by the organisation “Isis,” my own concerns seem miniscule in comparison. The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as IS (Islamic State) have “swallowed up swathes of Iraq and other areas like a pervading darkness,” it has been said. In just one day, tens of thousands of Christians have fled from towns and villages, with nothing more than the clothes on their backs…  I read these words just now: “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8v35-39)… Please pray fervently for all those who are in this terrifying situation as the UN has withdrawn and missionaries are now on their own.

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6v2)

“Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.” (Hebrews 13v3)
